Yoga Wear: Yogabela Blumenau Shorts — minimum coverage for maximum comfort!

I totally got caught cheating.
I ran into Yogabela founder Joel Christoph the other weekend at the Bikram Yoga Queens studio, but I was wearing my mini  Shakti shorts. (gasp!)  I was cheating on Yogabela.  :(
Joel asked me what I liked about them, so I told him: I have very short legs, so I really love the fact that Shakti shorts have a very small inseam.  During Bikram class, I really like wearing the minimum amount of clothing, so I am able to see my muscles in the mirror and make corrections for my legs.
So this past weekend, he slipped me a pair of the Yogabela Blumenau Shorts to road test.  Upon first inspection, outlook good:

  • It’s their shortest inseam shorts that they offer — only 2″!
  • It’s a unisize, so it accomodates sizes 0-4
  • Has a waist tie, so you can adjust for comfort
  • MAIN DRAW: it’s made in their signature Yogabela fabric, which (to me) is super durable, washes well, and doesn’t retain that “sweat smell”

Last night, I tried it for the first time…WIN!!!

The shorts were the perfect inseam, and they didn’t ride up or move around b/c of the adjustable tie-waist!  :)

Namaste!

Yoga Intention for 2010

I was fortunate enough to take Chrystine Cooper’s class on New Year’s Day and on January 2nd at Bikram Yoga NYC Midtown.

For those who have never taken a class with Chrystine, she leads a very calm, serene and meditative class.  One thing I treasure is that in-between each posture, she reminds us all to “Inhale……and exhale.”
Breath is such a vital necessity, but you’d be surprised how often we forget to do it during class (as well as in our lives).  Her gentle reminder helps us all to reset and re-center before our next posture.
In the beginning of both classes, Chrystine shared her 2010 Mantra with the class.  She said it was Georgia-inspired.
Sometimes even just affirming a small intention, sets yourself up for a truly inspiring practice.  So I just wanted to share her Mantra with you:

To build a beautiful temple for my soul.
To live less in my mind.
To be here now.

Namaste!

The Sweat Sack: the greener way to carry your wet clothes home

Everyone knows to be Green, is to be divine.  Naturally, my Bikram Yoga NYC Studio is going to be phasing out the plastic bags, so they’ve just recently started selling Sweat Sacks.

These are washable, re-usable cotton bags, that have water-proof lining.  Perfect to carry home your wet, post-Bikram gear.  It’s a simple concept developed by a fellow, earth-conscious Bikram Yogi who felt it was wasteful to keep using plastic bags to carry home your soaking clothes.

They come in adorable fabrics, and 3 sizes:

  • Large (16″ x 18″): $25
  • Medium (13″ x 15″): $20
  • Small (10″ x 12″): $15

Shipping is $5 if your order through the website, or you can visit you neighborhood Bikram Yoga studio and see if they carry them!

Yoga in Times Square

Yesterday, at the 6:45am Bikram class, the teacher alluded briefly to some yoga thing in Times Square. I didn’t know if I had heard correctly, or if I was suffering heat stroke. But then this morning at the 6:45am class, I got the 411.
Saturday, June 21st: YOGA IN TIMES SQUARE. Anyone can find tranquility on a mountain top, but can you find it in the middle of Times Square?
Hmmm.
I’m up for the challenge. Of course, I’ll be doing the Bikram Yoga session at Noon. Who’s with me? :)
