#2011MUC: NARS cult Lipstick shade: SCHIAP

every brand has their cult items.  naturally, NARS is known for Orgasm everything (blush, lipgloss, nail polish, Multiple).  but that’s not the only thing that’s a cult item.

behold: NARS Lipstick in Schiap. the website describes it as “shocking matte pink”. no doubt about it…it is.  again, because this is a semi-matte formula, it is FAR more comfortable on the lips than other versions of this shade i’ve tried.  simply amazing!

on the rest of the face:

  • NARS Duo Eyeshadow in Kilimanjaro:  a GREAT wearable alternative to doing a stark, harsh WHITE on the lids. particularly great for my yellow-undertoned skin
  • NARS Highlighting Blush in Miss Liberty:  since the lip was so strong, i didn’t want to have too much color on the cheek, just a bit of highlighted lift
  • NARS Sheer Matte Foundation:  don’t let the name fool you — this is NOT your momma’s matte foundation.  it’s actually VERY comfortable, super sheer and it provide a particularly great canvas foundation, especially when you want to play with highlighting and different textures on the rest of your features

#2011MUC FOTD: NARS Jungle Red is my EVERYTHING

this was actually yesterday’s FOTD…unfortunately my day completely escaped me!

inspiration:  i was wearing skinny black pants + a B&W striped top + loafers, so i wanted to channel a very classic look.  i kept the eye very nude with a black liner on the bottom, contoured blush cheeks…with NARS Lipstick in Jungle Red.

this Lip color is literally my new EVERYTHING. not only is the pigment really rich with a semi-matte finish, it’s really the FORMULA that makes it fantastic.  most straight-up matte lipsticks dry out my lips like you wouldn’t believe. but because this is semi-matte, you still all the gorgeous appearance of matte, but without the harsh stripping of your lips.

#2011MUC FOTD: NARS ES Duo in Star Sailor + Doucer Blush

since i’m usually such a liner person, i figured i’d try a “softer” look to go with my taupey top, and (gasp) NO eyeliner.

Product Line-Up:

←NARS Duo Eyeshadow in Star Sailor

i am really loving the NARS Duo Eyeshadows. sometimes you look at the shade combinations and wonder if they’ll go together, but invariably they ALWAYS do in a very unexpected, genius way.  Star Sailor is described as a “heather gold/antique bronze” combo on the website. pretty accurate – when applied, the gold was “golder” than expected, the bronze was a luxurious rich brown shade with a subtle metallic — nothing gaudy or housewife-y.

 ←NARS Blush in Douceur

i’m usually a peach-tone blush kinda gal, so i’m trying to step out of my comfort zone.  Douceur Blush is described as a pink brown.  it provides a really lovely “contoured” cheek look, with the slightest hint of color, so you don’t look completely nuded.

 ←NARS Lipstick in Joyous Red

even though the site describes this as an “amber red”, i would say it reads almost Terracotta on the lips (or at least my lips). i think the best way to describe this shade: an incredibly easy, wearable red.  it’s red/orange/pink all mixed in one — definitely a shade you could probably wear every day without looking over-done.  it gives just that little extra flushed pigment to your lips in a natural way.

FOTD: NARS Eyeliner Stylo Cat-Eye with baby pinks

image

On my way to the L2 Innovation Forum this morning, so no time for a full-on FOTD…

But because I’m heading to a conference. I’m feeling very business casual. I have a lovely knee-length, high-neck, 3/4 sleeve, demure black dress. Naturally, a graphic cat-eye was necessary.

You know I loves me a liquid liner. The NARS Eyeliner Stylo is no exception. There’s a rich black pigment, and it’s exceptionally precise.

Normally when I do a graphic liner, though, I’ll marry it with a strong lip, too. (go hard or go home, I always say). But seeing how I was going to be around a bunch of conference-goers, I didn’t want to scare the natives.

So I went with baby pinks on the cheeks and lip. Cheek is this new blush from Spring 2012, the lip is NARS Lipgloss in Angelika. Again, like all the other glosses, it looks far more aggressive in the tube than it does on the lips. The color is a stunning, subtle, uber-feminine pink.

NARS FOTD: warming up with @NARSissist Duo Eyeshadow in South Pacific

looked at the weather this morning and saw that NYC would be hitting 70° today! in celebration of this awesome un-November-like weather, i decided to lighten things up in the makeup department.

pulled out NARS Duo Eyeshadow in South Pacific. i love a bright shade, and this beautiful palette had two: a true turquoise shimmer and a light powder blue shade.

i have to apologize about the photo – the lighting in my apt was not ideal this morning. for a better idea of the shade, probably best to check the NARS website.

the look was simple:

FOTD: in honor of the Watch The Throne concert tonight — NARS Duo Eyeshadow in PARIS

last night, just as i was about to fall asleep, i got an email from my homegirl Miss Info, asking me if i wanted to join her tonight for the Jay-Z & Kanye Watch The Throne concert. my answer was simple: HELL ASS YES.

<img class="alignnone size-medium wp-image-1068" title=" on the streets of Manhattan on July 30, 2010 in New York City.” src=”http://seouldivadotcom.files.wordpress.com/2011/11/jay-kanye-dinner.jpg?w=300″ alt=”" width=”300″ height=”207″ /> ←oh hi, boys.

so this morning, while browsing through my NARS products for my makeup look, i decided it would be appropriate to try on the Duo Eyeshadow in Paris:

personally, i never really think of the city of Paris as such an asphalt city (in my memory, it seems more golden to me), but this duo is pretty elegant and refined. the left is a sheer, lightly shimmered silver, to the right is a matte grey.

what was unexpected about this Duo, however, was the dark grey shade: it wasn’t a black/grey, but it was a gorgeous dark, taupey grey.  the silver counterpart was also not too “white” or cold — they were perfect compliments.

i kept the rest of the look simple, with my new stable of “classics” from NARS:  the Larger Than Life Eyeliner in Via Veneto, Orgasm Blush and Easy Lover Lip Gloss. :)

NARS FOTD: Jungle Red pout, inspired by the new Style.com print mag

i know it’s not very hetero-male friendly, but to me – nothing says confidence like a bold, matte lip. as you probably know, Style.com just recently released its first Print magazine this week.  on the cover, is model Lindsey Wixsom with a gorgeous, almost surreal, vivid red pout:

makeup artist Mickael Noisette shared that he used none other than NARS Semi-Matte Lipstick in Jungle Red to get that gorgeous, full color.  well, after hearing that, naturally, i had to snag one from the beauty closet and try it for myself.

now there are 2 reds that i fancy from the NARS Semi-Matte finish variety: Jungle Red and Red Lizard. here are some differences between the two:

 ← RED LIZARD

NARS Semi-Matte Lipstick in Red Lizard:  this is a very tried & true, classic red.  definitely an equivalent to a MAC Russian Red.  to me, this is a very sophisticated, Little Black Dress type of shade.

 ← JUNGLE RED

NARS Semi-Matte Lipstick in Jungle Red  this shade was such an unexpected discovery!  this shade is exquisite — i would describe it as a young red. it has a little more orange/yellow to it than Red Lizard, so it reads more vibrant.  if Red Lizard is a Little Black Dress, then Jungle Red is a weathered, black leather motorcycle jacket.

it’s hard to find a MAC equivalent to this shade: it’s not quite Lady Danger (which i think the NARS equivalent is Heat Wave), but it’s not quite the deep red of the NARS Red Lizard.  whatever it is…it’s amazing.  color me obsessed.

most importantly: the formula is far more emollient than i would expect for such a bold, matte-ish look.  in life, there’s always good with the bad: usually the price for getting a striking, matte look is uber-drying formulas. NOT SO with these NARS lipsticks…the formulas are unexpectedly comfortable without compromising the color saturation or matte payoff.

today’s look: kept it simple again:
