BP Cleanse Diaries: Which cleanse to do?

14 Apr

My motto is always “Go hard or go home!” That’s all good & well, but when it has to do with your body and your health…I think I need to take it slow & steady.

I recently decided to take the juice fast plunge and do the Blue Print Cleanse.  I’ve never really done a 100% cleanse before, but I’ve done the raw vegan thing for a few weeks (which I loved — had so much energy and felt so awake!).

BP Cleanse offers 3 levels of cleansing that range — for all intensive purposes — Renovation (beginner), Foundation (intermediate), Excavation (hard-core).

The website says:

The main difference between the three levels corresponds to how many green juices vs. fruit juices per day. If you are new to juicing and aren’t used to as much green juice, start with Level One and gradually work your way up.

Here is a visual representation of the different levels.

RENOVATION:

FOUNDATION:

EXCAVATION:

The moral of the story: The more Green, the more hard-core!

Since I don’t lead a hopelessly toxic life…I opted to do a 3-day Foundation, followed by a 3-day Excavation Cleanse!

I’m picking up my first round of juices on Sunday afternoon…wish me luck!!! :)

Blue Print Cleanse — Maximum Cleansing Goodness, for MINIMUM effort!

12 Apr

To cleanse or not to cleanse?
THAT is the question.

Being so engrossed in Bikram yoga, I’ve always flirted with the idea of doing fasts or cleanses.  One of my classmates-turned-instructors Kathryn Leary used to do 4 juice fasts each year — one fast for each change of season.

I’ve always wanted to try it, but I’m not enough of a nutrition guru to know how to do a cleanse safely & successfully.  (Personally, I don’t believe in the Master Cleanse — I just don’t think it’s healthy to shock your body so drastically.)

SO…imagine my SHEER JOY when I discovered the Blue Print Cleanse!

Essentially it’s a raw vegan juice cleanse (no dairy, nothing cooked, no animal ANYthing), expertly balanced from a nutritional perspective, and conveniently packaged for you in 6, convenient bottles!

This appeals to me on SO many levels:

  • Choose Your Own Adventure…cleansing! There are 3 levels of Cleansing: Renovation, Foundation & Excavation.  You can choose how “hard-core” you feel like cleansing.
  • CONVENIENCE! Honestly, in this crazy NYC world, buying a juicer, getting the fruits & veggies, juicing every night, bottling and carrying your juices…..is HOPELESSLY impossible.  With BP Cleanse, you get all the benefits, without the hassle!
  • NUTRITIONALLY BALANCED.  No figuring out whether you’ve managed to add enough kale, or lemon juice, or almond milk.  They do it FOR YOU!!  Viva La Laziness!

It’s also endorsed by Bikram Yoga NYC which, in my experience, has been super-reliable with all their recommendations.

Cleanses range from $65 – $85 a day (depending on whether you pick-up the juices, or  get them delivered…UBER La Laziness!).

Kimchi Soon Doobu @ BCD Tofu, NYC

3 Apr

I was a little sad when Dae Dong Myun Oak closed down — that was an NYC old school Korean restaurant with the best Naeng Myun around.

So when BCD Tofu took over the space, I was critical. (alao bc it’s a franchise) But it’s actually quite tasty!

Allegedly it’s “organic” tofu. Also they supposedly don’t use any MSG.

This is my brekky: kimchi soon doobu. I ordered it with meat, but the soup base is still seafood. Not bad!

Cafe Angelique Outpost in Soho, NYC

16 Mar

Nestled on the corner of Prince & Mercer is the Cafe Angelique stand. It used to be the old Dean & Deluca outpost, but they renovated it into this adorable quick eats post.

They offer coffee & pastries in the AM, and daily soups, sandwiches and baked goodies (including stuffed cupcakes) in the afternoon.

Yum!

Hakata Tonton, NYC. You betta be a Porker if you wanna eat here!

En route to checking out Betel for dinner tonight, I walked by Hakata Tonton on Grove Street. I ate here a few years ago with my homegirl Elaine, not realizing that “tonton” must translate to pigs feet in Japanese!

Was delicious, but only for the true porkers!
