straight up: last night & today were uber stressful. so when i woke up, i knew i needed my brain to be functional and full of nourishment!
lately, i’ve gone “off book” with my green smoothies and have begun improvising with what i put in them. today:
- 2 small mangos
- 2 small organic oranges
- spinach
- kale
- 1/2 cup water
- 6 ice cubes
i try to keep a general rule of 50% fruit, 50% dark leafy greens. another thing, i usually put something “fiber-ous” like a mango or banana in there, so it can make the smoothie nice and thick!
verdict: brainfood = yummy.

Ok, just caught up on your blog and you’ve inspired me to be creative w/ the “green smoothies”! Thanks, girl!
hey heather, i’ve been a reading of your blog for a while now and an admirer of your nail art! thought i’ld send you a yummy raw desert receipe i came up with recently:
Raw Banana Pudding:
1 small banana
1 tsp Peanut butter
1 tbl coconut meat
1/2 tsp honey
1/4 tsp vanilla
tiny pinch of pink salt
Mash up and combine. Top with honey glazed pecans.
Enjoy!
OMG this sounds like heaven! quick question: where do you get your coconut meat? For some reason, young Thai Coconuts are really hard to find in NYC (or I don’t know where to get them). Also, is the peanut butter you use raw?
xx, hp
i recently moved to jersey city and there is a health food store right by my house where i can get young Thai coconuts. BUT a great place in my old neighborhood of murray hill is kalustians on lex @ 29th st. they have every kind of specialty ingredient you could need. it’s def worth the trip! yes, pb was raw so i think that’s why it’s better with a little honey. have fun!
Omg!! Thank you SO much for this info!!!
yay!
