Nail Sabbatical: dare to be bare (and short!)

I know it’s been a while since I’ve done a nail design post…and that’s because I have no fun news to report!  Since my last nail sparkly design, I haven’t had time to visit any of my Calgel haunts.  I think I’ve decided it’s time for a…NAIL DESIGN SABBATICAL!
Here’s what my nails look like now…
gasp!
I know…I’ve been adorning my nails with wacky designs for nearly 18 months — it’s a little strange for me to have bare AND short nails.  But there are a few plus sides to it:

  • I can type faster!
  • no “gunk” removal from under my nails… (ew)
  • I’m $50 – $120 richer every paycheck, since I’m not splurging on my nail addictions
  • I can now practice the piano and get my keys game to a place where I can play & sing my songs for my own gigs…. YES!

Do I miss the crazy designs??  Absolutely.
But I think for the next few weeks, I’m going to let my nails breathe and air out.  But rest assured, I’ll do it up for Fashion Week again!! :)

  1. Irene and I were wondering if you had done any nails lately! We tried Marie Nails on your suggestion and have been pretty happy so far (two sets). I’m planning something crazy awesome for my next set (just a boring glitter gradation and 3-D bows right now) so I’ll be sure to send you pics!

  2. Hey Lani!! That design sounds SOOO dope! Would love to feature your designs if you wouldn’t mind.  Shoot me an email with pictures!! I can live vicariously through you…WHEEE!!  :)

  3. I can’t believe it! But change is good. This gives you some time to think of a kick ass design for when you are ready to get back on the Calgel wagon.
I have been tempted to do the same since I hate the upkeep (bi-weekly appts). It may be too big of a change for me right now.

  4. OMG I FOUND A NEW CALGEL PLACE!!
I havent actually gone in cuz i have an upcoming appt. with Sakura but its on the corner of i believe 11th street and 3rd ave :)

  5. Hey Tania! REALLY?! That’s so exciting!! Is it expensive?? do they do art? i know a lot of places offer Calgel, but the reason why I love the Japanese spots so much is b/c they do such dope nail art… LMk if you have any more info!
    xx, hp

  6. I asked for a brochure, but it didnt come in it :[ since i was in a rush i didnt really ask, but next time I pass by ill ask again and get you an address and so forth. I did see samples on display though, just basic stuff.
And i know for a fact the girls working there were def. japanese! I already have an appt with sakura but for my next one ill give them a try and let you know.

  7. Hey Tania – I think I know the place that you are referring to. It’s on a corner and they offer other services besides nails.
I got a wierd vibe from the place. I had walked by and inquired about their gel and art. They only had magazine photos of art, but nothing that they had done. Strike one. I also asked if they had biogel and they did not know what I was talking about. Strike two. When I asked them about the cost of a calgel manicure, they changed some of the prices. Strike 3.

  8. I’m a CalGel junkie just like you, but every 3-4 months I let my nails breathe! It’s hard living without the designs but when I have more money in my pocket it’s also hard to go back :)
