GRUB & GEEK: The Standard Grill, Part Deux – blown away by the hand dryer!

10 Aug

Last Friday, I celebrated the end of the work week by grabbing a drink with my boss.  All ass-kissing aside, I honestly feel really lucky to work for someone who I admire professionally, but who I can also consider a friend.

We ultimately ended up at The Standard Grill, since she is friends with the restaurant manager there.  I was SHOCKED at how different the scene was on a Friday night than from my FIRST experience there.

For one, when we arrived at 6:10pm, it was peaceful, civilized and not as crowded.  LOVELY.

We were able to grab a little table in the front area, where we ordered drinks from a waitress.  I got my Summer Bramble and was in heaven (especially after the 2 Kumquat Mojitos I had at Mercer Kitchen before that):

We eventually moved over to sit at the bar, where we ordered a platter of cured meats to knosh on.  They came with Cornichons and 2 types of plump, juicy olives:

The bartender who served us was friendly, knowledgeable (she recommended a great bottle of Rose wine for my friends), and it was a complete departure from my first visit there.

BUT, my most FAVORITE part of the evening, was the discovery of this amazing new hand dryer in the bathrooms.  Yes, I said HAND DRYER.

But this isn’t just ANY hand dryer.  It’s a DYSON Hand Dryer!

Here’s the bathroom situation at The Standard Grill: being too cool for signs, it’s generally understood that Women veer left, and Men veer to the right.  There are private bathrooms for your relieving pleasure.  Then when you come out, there’s the oh-so-chic communal sink.  Perhaps just another opportunity to hear pick-up lines.

(One poor sod was trying to kick it to this girl and said:  “You know, you have a great smile.  That’s not a compliment, that’s a FACT.”  UM, no thanks.)

So, back to the amazing hand dryer, it’s officially called the Dyson Airblade Hand Dryer.  It’s basically motion-sensored, and shoots air at your hands from 360-degrees.  AMAZEBALLS!!

I’m a little bit of a public germophobe, so usually after I wash my hands, I’m a “paper-to-turn-off-water-and-turn-the-doorknob” kinda gal.  Also, most hand dryers take a good 2-3 minutes to completely dry your hands.

This baby was like the BMW of Hand Dryers.  Dry in 60 seconds (or maybe even LESS!).  I’ll take two, please.

So overall, The Standard Grill, Part Deux:   WAY more of a success than the first.  Even though we didn’t sit to eat dinner, the scene was so much more manageable and laid-back.

I will definitely give it a 3rd shot for the food again!  Besides, I gotta use that hand dryer again….

I think I will go to Standard Grill just to try that Summer Bramble. It looks like a dessert, like a ABC Ice from a Malaysian restaurant. I like the Dyson Airblade Hand Dryer, I only seem then at the movie theater bathrooms though, never at a restaurant.

They have the most amazing cocktails there!! There’s also one they serve in a copper mug (I forget the name). Incredible! :)
